CCF Co-chair John Price and his partner Margaret McGregor (who was on the first student exchange with China,1973-75) were warmly welcomed at East China Normal University in Shanghai (ECNU) this Monday. They met with Zhang Rui, Liu Jianping, Timothy Baycroft, and Song Yi, representing  ECNU’S division of International Cooperation and Exchange and the university’s History Department to discuss the strengthening of ties between the University of Victoria and ECNU. Next year will be the 45th anniversary of the partnership between the two institutions. They also visited ECNU’s Cold War History Archives, an institutional leader in this field. Afterwards John Price gave a talk to ECNU students about Dr. Victoria Chung, the Victoria physician who practiced medicine in China from 1923 until her passing in 1966. The talk was based on the book, A Woman in Between: Searching for Dr. Victoria Chung co-authored by Price and Ningping Yu (2018).

Between now and late October, we have a rare opportunity to take action to change Canadian law in order to cut off the massive flow of Canadian-made military components that reach Israel through the “US Loophole”. If we‘re going to successfully push to pass this bill, we need to know how every MP is planning on voting. We are relying on you to fill out the form above to let us know what different MPs have said about whether or not they will support this bill.

Police don’t need these new powers to address hate crimes. Much of the conduct the bill targets—like “threats or acts of violence”—is already illegal.

Last week, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Chairs introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Week, from September 22 – September 28, 2025.

Previously, many Chinese immigrants did not want to naturalize as U.S. citizens because it meant giving up their Chinese passports, as China does not recognize dual citizenship. But with the heightened immigration enforcement under Trump, what once seemed a privileged, safe status now feels precarious.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday said China is willing to make more active and practical efforts with Canada to promote further improvement of bilateral relations.

Carney stated that he had "constructive" trade talks with Li and was anticipating a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as the two nations work to build a new, stable trade relationship. 

Saving a livable planet will increasingly depend not on Washington, but on whether China can help shape a more inclusive, sustainable and safe world order.

China on Monday put into operation the core equipment of its super-gravity centrifuge simulation and experiment facility, including the world's largest centrifuge with a capacity of 1,300 g·t (gravity acceleration·tons), China Media Group reported.
